Oral Health Advice

Our team want you to have a healthy mouth and a happy smile!

Here are the main ways you can do so:

  • Brush twice a day: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, cleaning all surfaces of your teeth.
  • Floss or Tepee daily: Remove plaque and food debris from between teeth and along the gumline.
  • Brush your tongue: Gently brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen breath.
  • Replace your toothbrush regularly: Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed.

Dietary Habits:

  • Limit sugary and acidic foods and drinks: These can erode tooth enamel and increase the risk of cavities.
  • Eat a balanced diet: Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and healthy foods to support overall health, including oral health.
  • Drink plenty of water: Water helps wash away food particles and neutralize acids in the mouth.

Regular Dental Care:

  • Visit your dentist regularly: Schedule regular check-ups and professional cleanings to prevent and detect problems early.
  • Seek prompt treatment for any oral health issues: Don’t delay seeking dental care for pain, bleeding gums, or other concerns.
  • Be aware of signs of oral cancer: Look for any unusual sores, white or red patches, or difficulty swallowing, and consult your dentist or doctor if you notice any.

Other Important Tips:

  • Avoid smoking and tobacco products: Smoking and tobacco use significantly increase the risk of gum disease and oral cancer.
  • Use a mouthguard when participating in sports or other high-risk activities: Protect your teeth and mouth from injury.
  • If you have a medical condition that affects your oral health (like diabetes), consult your dentist for personalised recommendations.
